“The show has been amazing with good attendance as well as good
performances. We have not changed from our earlier decision to show the
play for one week. However, those who are not in Harare will have to buy
the DVDs which will be released starting from next week,” Guzha said.
In the play urban grooves singer Roki, whose real name is Rockford
Josphats, showed that he is a man of many talents in his stage debut.
Produced and directed by Guzha with the assistance of Marian
Kunonga as co-director, the play opened at Theatre in the Park(Harare)
to critical acclaim.
However, it was sad that Maneta Mazanhi could not make it on stage
due to her busy schedule but Nothando Nobengula put up a brilliant
performance.
Other members in the cast include the talented Chipo Bizure and Michael Kudakwashe who feature as adjudicators.
Written by veteran playwright and critic Stephen Chifunyise, the
play captured one of Zimbabwe’s most talked about rivalries in the
entertainment industry.
The Roki and Maneta enmity in the Big Brother StarGame reality show
grabbed headlines and divided the nation as fans of the two Zimbabwean
representatives came out guns blazing in support of their favourite
housemate.
The subsequent disqualification of the pair from the reality show
added fuel to the fire as emotions hit the roof with followers of Big
Brother StarGame taking turns to heap blame on the two for their
reckless behaviour.
However, this did not only have negative impact on Roki and Maneta, as both became instant celebrities.
Roki and Maneta (Encounter) is a light-hearted production infused with dance, music and a sprinkling of comedy. The Herald – Zimbabwe
