Gossip: Winky D Restores Zimbabwe’s Big Brother Honour

Winky D restored a measure of honour for Zimbabwe on the Big Brother Africa show on Sunday night with a stunning performance of his song, Takaipa Takaipa, on the M-Net TV show.
The Kambuzuma-born star – self-dubbed the ‘Messi of reggae’ – was the main performer on eviction night.
The last time Zimbabweans were on the show the country’s image took a battering when housemates Maneta Mazanhi and the singer Rockford Josphats were involved in an ugly spat which ended with both of them evicted for violence.
The 29-year-old Winky D, real name Wallace Chirumiko, overcame a language barrier as he animatedly belted his smash hit – striking an immediate connection with the audience of mainly South Africans.
With a huge Zimbabwean flag projected on the screen behind him, Winky D set about to prove Zimbabwe has got talent, and in the end praise came from Big Brother Africa host I.K who declared: “That’s right, we love it we love it!”
