Last week but one, Eccentric Nigerian Channel O VJ Denrele Edun left
Thika residents in awe after spending hours cleaning their jigger-
infested feet.
Denrele, who had accompanied Ahadi Kenya Trust’s Stanley Kamau and
former Big Brother Africa Amplified contestant Millicent Mugadi to
Kiangata Primary School, immediately became a darling of the villagers
from his unique dress code, his wild hair and his trademark blocked
boots.
Despite the language barrier, many scrambled to have a word with him.
Denrele was shocked by the extent of the damage to the villagers’ feet.
“It’s not like we do not have jiggers in Nigeria but the problem here
is big. I’m very glad to have been part of this exercise and I promise
to go and tell this to my fellow Nigerians especially the celebrities
and see how we can help,” Denrele told Word Is.
Meanwhile, Ahadi Trust CEO Stanley Kamau was a bit disappointed in the turnout that day, blaming it on the teachers’ strike.
“Teachers really help us in identifying the students infested by
jiggers but since they are not here our campaign for this weekend has
been a bit slow. The government should come up with a solution to end
this mess and that it does not happen again,” he said.
